ABLE Christian School recognizes that technology is an important part of teaching and learning. The purpose of this policy is to establish reasonable safeguards that protect students, school systems, instructional resources, and technology used within the school environment.

These requirements are intended to promote cybersecurity, student safety, academic integrity, responsible digital citizenship, and appropriate educational use of technology.

1. Administrator Access and Security Settings

Student computers used for school purposes will be configured so that students do not have administrator-level privileges during the school day.

​

Students may not independently install or download applications, programs, software, browser extensions, utilities, or other digital content that requires administrator authorization.

​

• Attempt to obtain or restore administrator privileges;

• Change or disable security settings established by the school;

• Create alternate administrator accounts;

• Use another person's administrator credentials;

• Attempt to bypass, remove, disable, or interfere with school-established security controls;

• Install unauthorized software, applications, extensions, games, VPNs, proxies, or similar programs

• Use websites, programs, or services for the purpose of circumventing the school's network, filtering, monitoring, or security measures.
   

If a student needs an application, program, extension, or other software for an academic purpose, the student should notify his or her teacher or an administrator so that the request can be reviewed.

2. Wired Over-the-Ear Headphones

Students are required to use wired, over-the-ear headphones when headphones are needed for classroom assignments, assessments, instructional videos, online learning programs, or other school activities.

​

Earbuds, AirPods, Bluetooth headphones, and other wireless audio devices will not be permitted for classroom use.

Requiring wired, over-the-ear headphones serves two important purposes:

​

• Technology Security: Wired headphones eliminate the need for Bluetooth pairing and reduce unnecessary wireless connections between student computers and nearby devices.

• Reduced Noise and Distraction: Over-the-ear headphones provide better sound containment and help reduce interference from surrounding classroom noise, allowing students to focus more effectively on instructional content without needing excessive volume.
   

Students should bring their own wired, over-the-ear headphones that are compatible with their computer to school each day.

3. Unauthorized Device Connections

Students may not intentionally connect their computers to unauthorized devices, networks, hotspots, phones, tablets, computers, speakers, headphones, or other electronic equipment during the school day.

​

Bluetooth and other unnecessary wireless device connections should remain disabled or unused during instructional activities unless specifically authorized by school personnel for an approved educational or accessibility purpose.

​

Students may not use personal hotspots or other network connections to circumvent the school's internet access, filtering, monitoring, or security systems.

​

4. Tampering With Security Controls

Students may not attempt to circumvent, disable, uninstall, alter, or otherwise interfere with technology security measures established by ABLE Christian School.

This includes attempts to bypass restrictions through:

​

• VPNs or proxy services;

• Alternate browsers or operating systems;

• Unauthorized browser extensions;

• Personal hotspots;

• Remote-access applications;

• Administrator passwords or credentials;

• Factory resets or system reconfiguration;

• Unauthorized accounts;

• Other methods intended to defeat or circumvent school-established security controls.
   

An attempt to bypass a security measure may be treated as a technology violation even if the attempt is unsuccessful.

5. Appropriate Educational Use

Technology available to students during the school day is provided primarily to support teaching and learning.

 

Students are expected to use their computers responsibly and only for authorized educational purposes during instructional time.

 

Accessing games, entertainment, social media, inappropriate websites, unauthorized communication platforms, or other non-instructional content during class is prohibited unless specifically authorized by a teacher for an educational purpose.
 

6. Academic Integrity

Technology may not be used to obtain, share, transmit, photograph, record, store, or access unauthorized information during an assignment or assessment.

Students are expected to comply with ABLE Christian School's academic integrity expectations, including school requirements regarding artificial intelligence, online resources, collaboration, and outside assistance.

​

7. Protection of Passwords and Accounts

Students are responsible for protecting their usernames, passwords, and school-related accounts.

Students should never:

• Share passwords with other students;

• Use another student's account;

• Attempt to obtain another person's password;

• Access files or accounts belonging to another person without authorization;

• Allow another student to use their account to circumvent school technology restrictions.
   

Students should immediately report suspected unauthorized access to a teacher or administrator.

8. School Access for Security and Technical Support

When a computer is being used as part of the student's educational program at ABLE Christian School, students and parents are expected to cooperate with reasonable technology-security requirements established by the school.

School personnel may need access to the device for legitimate educational and technology-management purposes, such as configuring required settings, troubleshooting connectivity, installing approved educational software, or addressing suspected violations of school technology requirements.

​

ABLE will make reasonable efforts to limit such access to what is necessary for the educational or security purpose involved.

​

9. Personally Owned Devices

ABLE Christian School recognizes that some students use personally owned computers for school. These technology requirements apply to personally owned computers when those devices are brought to school and used to access ABLE's network, instructional platforms, assessments, or other school technology resources.

When a personally owned computer is brought onto campus and used for instructional purposes, the device becomes part of the school's technology environment by connecting to ABLE's network and accessing school systems, instructional platforms, assessments, and other technology resources.

​

For this reason, ABLE requires personally owned computers used at school to meet established minimum technology and security requirements. These requirements are intended to protect the individual student and device, as well as other students, staff, school information, instructional systems, and the security and integrity of ABLE's network.

​

As a condition of using a personally owned computer for school, families agree that the device will be configured in accordance with ABLE's required school-use security settings. These settings may include restricting student administrator privileges, preventing unauthorized software or application installation, limiting unauthorized wireless connections, and implementing other reasonable security controls.

10. Violations and Restoration of Settings

Students should not remove, modify, or circumvent school-established security settings after a device has been configured.

If security settings are removed or altered, the school may require the device to be reconfigured before the student is permitted to use it for school assignments or assessments.

​

Repeated or intentional violations may result in disciplinary action consistent with the ABLE Christian School Student Handbook and may include restriction of technology privileges, parent notification, demerits, conduct probation, or other appropriate consequences.

​

The nature of the violation, the student's intent, the student's disciplinary history, and any potential security or academic-integrity concerns may be considered when determining consequences.

Parent and Student Acknowledgment

We acknowledge that we have received and reviewed the ABLE Christian School Student Computer & Technology Security Policy.

​

We understand that these requirements have been established to promote student safety, cybersecurity, academic integrity, responsible technology use, and protection of the school's educational environment.

​

We understand that students are expected to comply with school-established technology settings and may not intentionally disable, alter, remove, or circumvent those safeguards.

​

By attending ABLE Christian School, students and parents/guardians acknowledge and agree to comply with all procedures regarding the Student Computer and Technology Security Policy.
